*Stoner Book Club Alliance is a book club founded by Marina Movellan during the Covid 19 pandemic as a way to connect with new people and keep in touch with old friends through literature and dialogue. The word "Stoner" in the context of this book club is not rooted in the habit or requirement of cannabis consumption but rather serves as a gesture of unseriousness to undercut the anxiety anxious people (like me) often ascribe to book clubs. The philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein theorized that words are like pieces in a language game that we, as players, are constantly changing. So, when we utter the word 'stoner,' we are not just articulating a label; we are invoking an entire lifestyle, a cultural phenomenon, a state of mind. It's here, in the doorway to guiltless creativity, that we explore ideas, question society, and occasionally stumble upon philosophical epiphanies – all while perhaps also sharing a little something something with the besties.
