"Drag" is a video series about an oversized snail bag being dragged through different dirty floors. As a viewer and a participant, we experience the gradual degradation of a cherished satin object. The project piggy backs off the themes and aesthetics of the film American Beauty (1999) through its central aim to meme the American middle class and its notions of beauty and personal satisfaction. While the early 2000s culture of digital exploration offered the destructive opportunity of an unattainable best self, the robust fast-paced algorithms of the 21st century have stream-lined a movement towards "The Ugly" and a politic beyond desirability. Further analysis sites this series as an explorations of attachment style, materialism, self-liberation, and redemption.
